Crescent Rolls
Story Behind The Recipe
I went to pick my cousin up and she offered me these, they were so yummy and she goes “you wont believe it, they are so easy to make” I just rolled my eyes they always say that dont they? She gave me the recipe and three days later I was on a mission to try them out. And true to her words, they are easy to make 😉
Ingredients
- 230 ml lukewarm milk
- 1 sachet instant dry yeast
- 113 grams melted salted butter
- 66 grams granulated sugar
- 2 eggs (1 for brushing)
- 480 grams all – purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (since we are using salted butter)
Instructions
Combine the warm milk and the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes. Take a large bowl and add all the ingredients (one egg only), mix with a wooden spoon till it comes together as a dough. Split the dough into 8 equal balls. On a floured surface roll out the first ball into 24” circle, apply butter all over, keep on the side, do the same with the rest of the balls and stack them on top of the other, the last ball should not be buttered. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Flour the surface again, roll out the stacked layers on a kitchen counter to about 5 mm thick, they will all blend together into a big circle. Cut into 16 triangles. Start from the top all the way down into 2 halves, then 4 quarters, then into 1/8th Starting from the end roll into the centre, the tip of the angle should be at the bottom of the roll. Place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper, space them out. Cover with a kitchen towel and leave in a warm place for 30 minutes. Beat the remaining egg and brush each roll. I also tried with softened butter, for me the egg wash was better! Bake in the oven for 15 minutes. Depending on the size of the oven, otherwise you will have to bake them in two batches. Once you get the hang of it, it is very easy and fun to make, feel free to experiment with different fillings!
